A 3Pt winch? Didn't old military vehicles have a shaft/pto driven winch on the front bumpers? It would be some work. ....

Northern Tool has a "Power Take-Off" winch in their catalog. I can't tell from the picture how it hooks up. I'm looking at their catalog #154 page 167. Their phone is 1-800-533-5545, NorthernToll.com. ....

Recalling that you previously had interest in pulling logs with a tractor, there is a PTO-powered winch, 3 pt arrangement sold specifically for winching up logs, and then pulling them out of the woods. By dropping the 3 pt, the winch drops to the ground, holding the tractor in place while the cable is let out to hook up to the log(s). The name is FarmiWinch. I tried to search for a site, but did not find one. It is advertised in the Tree Farmer magazine publication usually. If I find more, I will post the information. ....

Here's a couple of link that go to U.S. Dealers. I believe Farmi is a Norwegian company. I don't think I've ever heard a bad word said about these winches--once you get past the price.

I just went to another site and stumbled across the Farmi home page, which is: http://www.normet.fi/forest/index.html
Looks like it's a Finish company rather than Norwegian.

Tom if you want to haul logs I would go for a skidding winch. There is Farmi out there as mentioned as well as Norse and Fransguard that are excellent units. You would not want a winch from a dozer application as they are a power winch and not built for speed like you could use for logs. You should make sure the unit that you get has a blade on it to level the trail and to use as a back stop. You should look to find one that matches the tractor weight that you will be using. If you buy one to light the tractor will be able to pull it apart, if you buy one to big it will pull your tractor apart. They are great machines and they sell well when you are done with them. ....

Hillbilly, I bought a Fransguard V4000 logging winch with my JD4700. I like it very much. They make a smaller version V2000 or V2500 I'm not sure of the #'s but I think it would better suit your 4400. David ....
